Leading off, we bring you Scott Chalk, author of the Chalk Talk Fantasy Baseball column, a regular feature of the FASTBALL.COM site. In his April 1997 "Checking the Stat Services" item, Mr. Chalk wrote:

Once I was nominated Commissioner of our newly formed Fantasy Baseball League, my first task was to find a suitable statistics service. After searching the internet for hours, and investigating possible software solutions, I decided on JasperStats. The decision was fairly easy. No one even comes close to providing the information they do, in the format they do, for the price they do.
As the season progressed we ran into the usual problems that new leagues encounter. Whenever we had a problem, I e-mailed the staff at JasperStats, and always received a response within the hour (sometimes within 15 minutes!). Using JasperStats made my commissioner duties a breeze--it even made commissioning fun! Our league's drop/add day was Thursday. In just a few minutes on Friday morning I could have all the trades and drop/adds entered. For the people in our league who aren't on-line, I simply printed the stats out and mailed them every week or so.
The JasperStats interface was smooth and user-friendly. Everything made sense and was easy to figure out. Entering the team information after the draft was very easy. And if I had questions about scoring or some other procedural matter, Warren and the JasperStats staff were amazingly responsive and helpful. If I sent an e-mail to them before leaving work at night, by the next morning they had responded. I had some trepidation about using a stat service, but JasperStats exceeded all my expectations. It was definitely money well-spent.
With JasperStats, since I didn't have to spend any time compiling stats, I was free to spend time doing what I do best: obsessing about my team!
